Sociocultural competence is included in the broad concept of intercultural competence, which stands out as an important part of the professional training and is fixed in the higher education standards. The subject of this study is the features of developing sociocultural
competence in the context of organizing research activities for foreign linguistics students. In particular, the potential of comparative discursive studies of the Russian and Chinese languages is of interest. The novelty of this work lies in the application of the socio-cultural competence
formation model to the research activities of Chinese students studying Russian as a non-native language. The model of sociocultural competence development is described based on four components: linguistic-cultural, meta-linguistic, interpretive, and psychological. The paper presents the main stages of work on a research project dedicated to the analysis of the Russian film services Internet discourse and the specifics of presenting information about Chinese films on them. The correlation of the socio-cultural competence components and linguistic comparative research methods is revealed. The study of the Chinese films description specifics on the cinema service website is shown by analyzing of the film presentation structure on the website, the meaningful hypertext features, and the pragmatic features of each description element. The linguistic and cultural component is presented by the example of studying the translating film titles techniques, non-equivalent vocabulary, national and cultural features of the plot summary content. As a result, it is concluded that the application of the Russian hypertexts discursive analysis methodology in comparison with Chinese forms a broader understanding of the culture facts specifics in the studied language, as well as the skills of confident communication in a foreign-language socio-cultural society.
